2012: The Year of Unity (+ Holiday Sale)

There it is, Radiangames’ revenue chart on iPhone/iPad for 2012.

As you can see, I released four paid games this past year.  I’m not going to give monetary amounts, but the games sold less than 6,000 copies each for prices between $0.99 and $2.99.

Fireball SE (1) was released in March, Ballistic SE at the end of April (2), Inferno+ at the end of May (4), and Slydris in late July (6).  The other points of interest are the 2-year anniversary sale (3), a small spike after Ballistic SE went free for a week (5), and Slydris becoming iPhone compatible at the same time Inferno was on sale for $1.99 (7).  Here’s another way to look at the sales:

Fireball SE was released first and has the lowest revenue and units sold.  Inferno+ has done the best overall, while Slydris has done much better on iOS relative to the PC/Mac version.

Though I’ve mostly been focused on iOS work this year, Radiangames also got contributions from other sources.  Here’s a relational chain for 2012:

PC/Mac* < XBLIG < SC** < iOS < Union < Indie Royale

* Includes Direct PC/Mac and Desura sales.

** Super Crossfire include both iOS and Mac App Store sales.

Revenue from the two Indie Royale bundles bested the rest, and Union was low effort/high return (I send my game projects to Unity, they send me a check when they make money).  Basically, porting my games to Unity (mostly done in 2011) had the biggest impact on revenue in 2012, even though direct sales of the PC/Mac versions don’t reflect that.

Looking back, I chose to focus on iOS over PC/Mac in February, and I’m happy with the choice even though it hasn’t been a major success (yet).  I enjoyed the 4 months of porting/enhancing my games for iOS, and I’m very happy with how the games turned out.  But they were mostly practice for my current large project, which won’t be out ’til 2013.

Overall, 2012 has been Radiangames’ most successful year, but that was mostly due to work done in late 2011.  Hopefully that carry-over trend will continue in 2013!

iPhone 5 Support and Holiday Sale

Slydris, Inferno+, Ballistic SE, and Fireball SE are all on sale for $0.99 on iOS for the rest of the year.  Both Fireball SE and Ballistic SE have been $0.99 once before, but this is the first $0.99 sale for both Slydris and Inferno+!

And if you’ve got an iPhone 5 or iPod Touch 5th Gen, all four have been updated to support 16:9 screens!

And for any PC/Mac players, all my games on Desura will be $1.99 for the rest of the year as well!
